2012 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Golf Tournament
The 9th annual Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Golf Tournament will be held on Flag Day, Thursday, June 14, 2012, with more than 175 competitors playing on the Oak and Pecan courses at Walnut Creek Country Club as the event returns to the Mansfield golf course for the third-straight year.
The shotgun-formatted event tees off at 8 a.m. followed by a noon-time luncheon at Walnut Creek Country Club with a program featuring an announcement of a newly-created award for the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl that will be presented by the Football Writers Association of America.
The golf tournament will be played on the par-70 Pecan and par-71 Oak courses at Walnut Creek Country Club where the event has been played the previous two years in September. The U.S. Marines Recruiting Office team, top Military Branch foursome in 2011, returns to defend their championship led by Brian Comeaux, Mike McClaughry and Bob Sanders.
Trevor Armstrong and Jeff Goodsell of Enterprise Rental Car will return to the event after winning the competition on Walnut Creek Country Club’s Oak Course the past two years. Cory Roseborrough, Joe Strickland and Ted Waldrip of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control also return after winning the 2011 championship together on the Pecan Course.
Roseborrough and Strickland were also course champions in 2008 and 2009 when the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl Golf Tournament was played at the Bear Creek Golf Club near DFW Airport.
Owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television (ERT), the 10th annual Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will kick off Saturday, Dec. 29 at TCU’s newly-renovated Amon G. Carter Stadium with a 10:45 a.m. (CT) kickoff. The game will be broadcast on ESPN and ESPN Radio. The 2012 postseason game will feature teams from Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference.
