Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl announces pre and postgame concerts

The Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl will once again feature a pre and postgame concert surrounding its bowl game on Saturday, Dec. 29. The DFW-based band “Le Freak” will headline the show at a postgame concert presented by Armed Forces Insurance. The “Greatest Disco Band in the Word”, Le Freak will perform immediately following the conclusion of the 2012 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl in the bowl’s Armed Forces Adventure Area. Both the Adventure Area and the concert are free to the public and will pay tribute to the men and women of the United States armed forces, as well as their families. Continue reading

Leading a Different Charge

As the Military Times noted on its web site, Clemson University “has one of the cooler entrances in college football, and Saturday (October 20) it was even more electrifying than usual for the home crowd.” The “electrifying” moment for the Tiger faithful came before the start of Clemson’s 38-17 win over Virginia Tech October 20 was when walk-on wide receiver Daniel Rodriguez, an Army veteran decorated for his service in Afghanistan, led his teammates onto Frank Howard Field at Memorial Stadium on Military Appreciation Day.

2012 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl tickets officially on sale

Tickets for the 10th anniversary Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl are now officially on sale to the public. Following the bowl’s sponsor and ticket renewals, the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl launched its “Purple Heart Campaign”, offering TCU season ticket holders the opportunity to purchase their seats for the bowl, with a portion of proceeds going to the TCU ROTC programs. Now that the program has been completed successfully, the bowl is opening up its ticket sales to the public.

Colonial Savings becomes official sponsor of Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl

Colonial Savings, a network of consumer and commercial banks in the North Central Texas region, has signed on as an official sponsor of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl for the 2012 postseason bowl game. This marks the first year the two entities are teaming up.

Those Like Him

Leon Bohls rarely talked about the war, and he wasn’t even in harm’s way for the most part. Many of those who have served our country kept their emotions, their doubts, their fears to themselves long after their time in the military, and my father was like that. Some suffered in silence, and some have had trouble dealing with what they saw or what they had to do to survive. But all understood the sacrifice that was necessary in time of war, the ultimate sacrifice in far too many cases. My father hadn’t been on the front line, and he didn’t fly bomber missions. But he worked on many of those planes that did in World War II and lost friends in that conflict during his time on with the Army’s 99th Bomber Group on bases in North Africa and Italy. So it’s with special pleasure that I was privileged to serve on a panel that has selected the recipients for the inaugural Armed Forces Merit Award presented by the Football Writers Association of America for their devotion to country.
